- High-tech remanufactured drive unit engineered and optimised to extend BEV lifespan and boost the Renault Zoe’s efficiency levels
- New ‘redrive’ unit debuted at Rematec 2025 in Amsterdam, marking the next phase in the partners’ remanufacturing rollout
- Joint offering supports circular economy and cost-effective electrification tech, helping to meet a growing demand in the aftermarket sector
- The Zoe drive unit follows the pioneering solution the partners developed for the Tesla Model S
PFI FERSA Automotive, a global leader in high-quality bearings for electric cars, vans, and light commercial vehicles, and part of the FERSA corporate group, and SEG Automotive, a global supplier of high-efficiency electric machines, specializing in starter motors and generators, are expanding their ‘redrive’ product line-up with the launch of an all-new remanufactured high-voltage drive unit for the Renault Zoe, one of Europe’s most widely sold battery electric vehicles (BEVs).
The new solution, which was officially presented at Rematec 2025 in Amsterdam from April 8-10, follows the successful introduction of the ‘redrive’ Tesla Model S unit, launched last year to strong demand across the European aftermarket.
The Renault Zoe, introduced in 2012, was one of the first all-electric cars to reach mass-market production in Europe. Now, more than a decade on, the earliest BEVs are coming out of manufacturer warranty and into independent repair networks. One of the most stressed and complex components – the electric motor drive unit – is both costly and difficult to replace using traditional OEM channels.
PFI FERSA and SEG Automotive have addressed this mounting challenge head-on with the development of a high-tech 100% remanufactured drive unit, providing the aftermarket sector with a high-quality, cost-effective alternative to full OEM-level replacements. The drive unit is remanufactured at SEG’s original parts facility in Treto, Spain, with PFI FERSA’s high-performance bearing technology integrated to ensure durability, thermal stability and optimised friction performance.
“We’re not just remanufacturing electric drive units – we are extending the life of electric vehicles and expanding the sustainability of mobility,” said Hugo Santos, Chief Business Development Officer at FERSA Group. “This partnership with SEG Automotive combines our leading-edge bearing expertise with their OE production capabilities to deliver performance and affordability to the aftermarket sphere.”
The new ‘redrive’ Renault Zoe unit offers up to 30% savings compared to new replacement parts while delivering high-quality systems integration. The solution covers serial number 290103231R and will be commercially available by the end of Q2 2025.
The next chapter in sustainable electric vehicle support
Under the joint ‘redrive’ collaboration name, PFI FERSA and SEG Automotive are building a catalogue of high-tech remanufactured high-voltage drive units to meet the needs of the independent aftermarket sector as EV and BEV adoption scales globally. With further models already in development, ‘redrive’ is becoming a key pillar in the shift toward a circular, sustainable EV and BEV service economy.
