- Common installation mistakes and how to avoid them
Afternoon Session (1:00–4:00):
- Practical case studies on improper mounting (photo and video analysis)
- Hands-on analysis of mounting damage: brinelling, smearing, false brinelling
- Inspection of shaft and housing fits and finish
- Interpretation of dimensional tolerances using bearing catalogs
- Review of plant examples of good vs. poor bearing practices
- Q&A session on participant-submitted mounting problems
Day 2 – July 11, 2025: Lubrication
Morning Session (8:00–12:00):
- Function of lubricants in rolling bearings
- Comparison of grease vs. oil lubrication systems
- Lubricant film thickness and its role in bearing life (elastohydrodynamic lubrication)
- Grease thickener types and their compatibility
- Base oil viscosity selection based on speed and temperature
- Lubrication regimes: boundary, mixed, and full film
- Selecting re-lubrication intervals (speed factor, environment, load)
- Use of automatic lubrication systems
Afternoon Session (1:00–4:00):
- Practical examples: bearing failures due to over/under greasing
- Grease application best practices and compatibility analysis
- Oil mist, oil bath, and circulating systems – case applications
- Lubricant storage, handling, and contamination control
- Introduction to oil analysis for condition-based lubrication
- Real-world cases of bearing degradation from lubricant issues
Day 3 – July 18, 2025: Failure Analysis (ISO 15243)
Morning Session (8:00–12:00):
- Overview of ISO 15243 failure classification standard
- Fatigue failures: surface-initiated vs. subsurface-initiated
- Wear mechanisms: abrasive wear, adhesive wear, and fretting
- Corrosion types: moisture corrosion, electric corrosion, false brinelling
- Plastic deformation, indentations, and overload damage
- Cage failures: fracture, wear, and smearing
- Electrical damage from VFDs and stray currents
Afternoon Session (1:00–4:00):
- Photo examples for each ISO 15243 failure mode
- Failure root cause investigation methodology
- Live discussion of real bearing failures submitted by attendees
- Interactive exercises: Classifying failures based on visual clues
- Summary of preventive actions for each failure mode
- Final Q&A and digital certificate briefing
Some examples of cases that will be studies during the course:
1. Grease Testing in The Field
2. Some real cases of heating large bearings in oil bath
3. False Brinelling examples from stand by equipment or equipment in warehouse.
4. Electrical Erosion / Fluting in Driven equipment
5. Using Endoscope for inspections of large bearings
6. Many Fretting Corrosion Examples will be provided that caused issues
7. In addition to many more real case studies from Khashayar on each failure mode, Below manuals from global manufacturers on ISO 15243 standard and failure analysis will be analyzed in details as well.
